On 15 December 2014 the Government announced a $30 million investment in Fremantle schools. These funds would not have been forthcoming without the enormous people power the community created on this issue. Thank you, Fremantle families.
The Government has decided to create a 'new' high school on the South Fremantle SHS site, and close Hamilton SHS. All students at South Fremantle SHS and Hamilton SHS will be enrolled in 'Fremantle College'.
The Fremantle community must keep the pressure on to ensure the school is in fact 'new' and meets the following criteria Fremantle families said they want met:
1. is open-entry and non-selective (for the majority of students) 2. comprehensive, with the full range of courses (on campus, regardless of numbers) 3. has a strong academic focus, with pathways to university 4. has a majority cohort from the Fremantle community 5. has strong leadership and excellent teachers 6. is close enough for most students to walk/ride 7. is safe with excellent pastoral care
